Your walking companion for a great day out

Many of the routes on Jura are not marked, and some follow uneven deer tracks (with the not-so-occasional bog to avoid). They’re certainly doable on your own with the right preparation, but having a guide lets you get the most from them.

You can relax and take in the full wonder of the burnt-gold hills, scree-grey Paps, dramatic lochs and stunning coastal views without having to repeatedly stop to check a guidebook.

The story of Jura Guided

The idea for Jura Guided grew incrementally over many years walking in Jura’s hills.

Trail shoes sodden with peat-bog mud, breathless from a long climb, looking out over unbelievable views of my island home… I always dreamt about one day helping others explore Jura’s magic.

I loved the idea of combining the natural landscape with the culture of our island community and unlocking Jura’s hidden gems for visitors and locals of all abilities to enjoy.

So, in 2022, I followed my heart and started Jura Guided.

25+ years of local outdoor experience

As a keen fell runner, I’ve been regularly training on Jura’s hills for more than 20 years, following in my family’s fell running footsteps.

But I’ve been exploring Jura’s landscape since I was wee. We’d often go camping on Jura’s west coast – staying at the bothies, exploring the caves, raised beaches and hills, and getting immersed in nature, stories, music and campfires. It’s always been a big part of my life to be outdoors on Jura.

As a result, I know the landscape intimately and can navigate us to the best views and most rewarding spots.
